If today we surf the Internet and with a few clicks obtain the information we need, we owe it especially to him: Marc Andreessen, the inventor of the browser, Mosaic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The story of its history is the second event that Assoprovider dedicates to the fathers of the Internet<\/strong>, after the one in which we recounted the life and deeds of Tim Berners-Lee, <\/span>inventor of the World Wide Web<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is who Marc Andreesen is and why he made history on the Web.<\/span><\/p>\n

From Mosaic to Netscape: where the inventor of the first browser was born<\/b><\/h2>\n

The computer genius was born in New Lisbon, a small place inhabited by 2,000 souls in the state of Wisconsin, a village of farmers. From a young age, Marc Andreessen had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and spent his days in the library. At 12 years old, his first invention: a calculator for math homework.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After graduating, he enrolls at the University of Illinois, where he writes code strings for Unix, an operating system, and gets paid less than 7 dollars an hour. He soon leaves his studies: he meets Jim Clark and together they invent a first browser: Mosaic, which will later be renamed Netscape.<\/span><\/p>\n

Netscape: a story like a fairy tale<\/b><\/h3>\n

The story of Netscape can be read like a fairy tale: the dream of two young men coming true, the entry into the Stock Exchange, the arrival of enemies to defeat (Microsoft). There is even a \"dragon\" and a happy ending (albeit halfway, as we will see).<\/p>\n

After creating Mosaic, Marc and Jim decided to bring together the best engineers from the<\/span> NCSA<\/span><\/a>, a research center in the field of computing still active at the University of Illinois. The two form a true super team and a company, Mosaic Communication Corporation<\/strong>, which was officially founded in April 1994.<\/span><\/p>\n

In just a few months, in October of the same year, the work team releases what is the first version of Netscape, the Netscape Navigator 1.0, which establishes itself as the first web browser.<\/p>\n

Mark and Clark were, after all, two pioneers: when Netscape Navigator was launched, there were practically no competitors in the market. There is, in truth, Microsoft, which is developing its own version of a browser, which will later become Internet Explorer, but Bill Gates and his associates are behind schedule compared to Netscape.<\/span>
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

The entry into the Stock Exchange and the \"browser war\"<\/b><\/h3>\n

After just one year, Netscape is already on the Stock Exchange, with shares starting at 28 dollars each, the company reaches a record valuation of 3 billion dollars. Not bad for an idea conceived by two university students.<\/p>\n

Despite the successes, the shadow of the giant Microsoft is starting to become increasingly threatening. In 1995 with Windows 95 Plus! Pack, Bill Gates launches Internet Explorer 1.0<\/strong>, which effectively marks the end of Netscape's monopoly in the market.<\/p>\n

The rivalry between the two browsers competing for the web is intensifying more and more. The Microsoft team is accused of having toppled the Netscape logo on the University campus on the day of the launch of Internet Explorer 4. In turn, Netscape will topple the famous \"E\" of Explorer, replacing it with its own logo.<\/p>\n

The end of Netscape and the birth of Mozilla<\/b><\/h3>\n

Microsoft's competition is too tough to tackle, and Netscape tries to differentiate itself by announcing its intention to make public the code that created Netscape Communicator: a move that gives birth to Mozilla, an organization that would later develop Firefox. At the same time, however, Microsoft can get its hands on all the information it needed to outmaneuver Netscape in the market.<\/p>\n

However, Marc Andreessen's company is acquired by AOL<\/strong>, the large American multinational in telecommunications that is shelling out 4.2 billion dollars to acquire it.<\/p>\n

The resurgence of Andreessen and the life-changing advice to Zuckerberg<\/b><\/h3>\n

Andresseen later reinvented himself and became one of the most powerful investors in Silicon Valley. He bet on Facebook, Twitter, Airbnb, Skype, Zynga, eBay, Instagram, Stripe, when no one else would have invested a dollar.<\/p>\n

In addition to his role as a venture capitalist, Andreesen has become one of Mark Zuckerberg's most trusted friends.<\/strong>. It is precisely his advice that prevents the founder of Facebook from making a mistake he would never have forgiven himself for. At the time, in 2006, he was 21 years old, when Yahoo! wanted to buy his startup for 1 billion dollars.<\/p>\n
