Piracy Shield: Assoprovider submits a complaint to the Court of Auditors for possible financial damage

Piracy Shield

Rome, 22 November

The Assoprovider Association has filed a complaint with the Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors of Rome regarding the system Piracy Shield, adopted by the Authority for Communications Guarantees (AGCOM).

The complaint requests to ascertain the existence of any potential damage to the public treasury and the consistency of Agcom's action in managing the financial resources related to the Piracy Shield.

The president of Assoprovider, Giovanbattista Frontera, states: «We demand transparency and accountability in the use of public resources and in the management of a system that significantly impacts the Italian internet network».

The association reiterates that it was the only one to promptly oppose the implementation of the Piracy Shield, despite its concerns remaining unheard. The anticipated risks materialized with the incident on October 19, 2024, when the system erroneously blocked access to Google Drive.

Assoprovider notes that only now do politics and stakeholders seem to pay attention to the reported critical issues. The association calls for a in-depth review of the Piracy Shield system and greater guarantees to prevent future errors.

With this report, Assoprovider continues its action of protection of the interests of the sector and citizens, reserving the right to undertake further legal actions on any administrative and criminal aspects of the matter.
