Green Card: On the Network, We Win, Join Assoprovider's Rightful Battles

Assoprovider ISP

«Help us help you», it is not a simple request: it is the slogan that best describes the mission of Assoprovider, the association of Internet Servizio Provider which brings together more than 200 companies from the North to the South of the country.

Since 1997, the year of its founding, we stand by the entrepreneurs who face many challenges every day, navigating through too many unjust laws and often stifling bureaucracy.

In the telecommunications sector, these efforts multiply, as do the injustices: the regulations seem written to favor the usual suspects and putting obstacles in the way of small and medium entrepreneurs.

In such a context, how much is it useful to become independent and assert your rights as an Internet Service Provider?

The history of Assoprovider, marked by victories, testifies that forming a group is the only way to make one's voice heard in the places that matter.

Assoprovider: the battles won

Since 1997 to today, there are many the battles that Assoprovider has fought and won to increase transparency and opportunities in the telecommunications sector.

In 2002, we managed to get the law approved "save provider", for the first time recognized ISPs as telecommunications operators.

In 2005, however, one of our initiatives led to the conviction of Telecom Italia for abuse of dominant position, forcing the company to pay a fine of 152 million euros.

In June 2013, we abolished the installer license, a real block to the development and distribution of Internet access.

These are just a few examples of the many victories achieved, read the history of Assoprovider

The small ISPs that serve everyone's interests

Our association has grown over the years. It has increased the number of events organized every year to promote its activities, it has formed increasingly prestigious partnerships, such as the one with Legacoop to bring ultra-broadband in market failure areas, has invested in new technologies to consistently offer higher quality services to its members.

What has not changed is its mission, summarized by President Dino Bortolotto:

"As alternative telecommunications operators, we have always demonstrated through actions our ability to reduce the country's digital issues precisely where it is most challenging to do so. We have brought the Internet everywhere, despite various legislative constraints (outside European regulations), which have never been removed or corrected, forcing us to work at a competitive disadvantage compared to the few national operators."

Our ideas are profoundly different from those of the incumbents and the large ones OLO is in tune with the interests of citizens, as demonstrated several times in the past. This is the case, for example, with the recent issue of free modem choice, the liberalization of Wi-Fi that occurred only in 2005 compared to the rest of Europe, and the opening of the network market to new entrants thanks to the amendment of the Communications Code.».
