Open Hub Med (OHM) is a consortium company with an operational headquarters in Carini (PA) where it offers co-location and interconnection services for national and international operators' networks within its own neutral and carrier-independent data center, equipped according to the highest standards of security and service continuity.
The consortium has been operational since 2017 with the aim of creating an aggregation point for network backbones to facilitate Internet traffic exchange in the Mediterranean basin, diversify the routes connecting the landing points of submarine cables linking India, the Middle and Far East, Africa with Europe, offer interconnection and peering services to Mediterranean countries significantly reducing latency, and contribute to the creation of a more competitive data transport market in Italy, as seen in the successful models of major European hubs.
Thanks to the extensive experience of its members in the field of telecommunications networks and the provision of services to businesses, public administrations, and citizens, OHM is today the largest hub of digital services in Southern Italy.
The Data Center OHM, with its 1000sqm, was designed by In-Site in 2016 with the most advanced technological systems ensuring service continuity and scalability of internal infrastructures and electrical power over time. Thanks to the modularity of fiber and electrical precabling systems, the DC is characterized by the ease with which clients can install their own equipment in racks or use those provided by OHM in extremely short times and at competitive costs. The DC, located within a carrier-grade technology campus, is managed according to the most stringent criteria related to the security of the structure and data and is ISO 26001 certified. Furthermore, due to sensitivity to issues related to reducing environmental impact in digitalization works, a photovoltaic system is being set up and the data center has been ISO 14001 certified.
To date, there are already six national and international Carriers with their own infrastructures in the data center and almost thirty Internet Service Providers (ISP) that utilize OHM's services. At its location, OHM hosts one of the major European content providers and has been chosen as a disaster recovery site by some well-known Italian companies.
Additionally, there are 2 terrestrial fiber backhauling (the 'digital highways') of the SEA-ME-WE 5 and AEE-1 submarine cables.
The consortium is chaired by Valeria Rossi, former General Director of the MIX in Milan and boasts a Board of Directors with a high managerial profile: Vincenzo De Caro (CEO of Mandarin), Guido Garrone (Co-CEO of Eolo), Riccardo Lo Noce (VP Sales for Southern Europe of EXA Infrastructure), Mauro Magrassi (CTO of MIX), Giovanni Ottati (CEO of Vuetel/Vu-Chain), Pietro Pelizza (Sales Director of the Wholesale Division of Fastweb), Federico Protto (CEO of Retelit), Lorenzo Rossi (Commercial and Sales Director in Stack EMEA Italy) and Giovanni Salerno (head of the Market Unit Enterprise & Public Sector of Italtel).
As of 1 September 2022 the corporate structure of OHM, highly representative of the diverse skills and market areas involved in the digitalization processes and infrastructure development for the country, is as follows: Atomo Networks S.r.L., Eolo S.p.A., Fastweb S.p.A., In-Site S.r.l., EXA Infra/GTT Italy S.r.l., Italtel S.p.A., MIX S.r.l. (Milan Internet Exchange), Retelit S.p.A., Stack EMEA Italy S.p.A., VuChain S.r.L., and Rete XMED, a network of enterprises formed by operators from the Sicilian territory.
