The association of Proximity Operators had in recent months put pressure on the Government and the authorities against a possible increase in the electromagnetic limits of 5G, well beyond 6V/m established by current regulations.

While everyone, including authoritative information sources, considered the increase in limits in the draft of the Asset Decree, the last Council of Ministers, before the summer break, effectively removed the measure.

"The Government has also followed our recommendations. In recent months, we have met with various politicians and even AGCOM to express our strong concerns about an increase that would have altered market conditions and harmed small and medium local operators," states Gian Battista Frontera, president of Assoprovider.

In the documents submitted to institutions and authorities, the association had highlighted the reasons that made raising the 5G limits risky.

In addition to the risks to human health that the scientific community has been debating for years, Assoprovider has emphasized how the increase would have widened the digital divide due to the complex conformation of the Italian territory from an orographic point of view, due to the mountain ranges, compared to flatter areas that exist in the rest of Europe.

"Many SMEs operating in the telecommunications sector, many of which are members of Assoprovider, have implemented digital coverage in digitally divided local communities. If the legislator's intention is to promote the development of wireless in telecommunications, while still maintaining the current emission limits for the aforementioned reasons, we hope that the State will always intervene with a wholesale market regulation that allows our SMEs to provide added value in the market throughout the country. For example, by activating a disaggregated wholesale market that would also lead to the creation of additional companies and, consequently, an increase in employment," concludes Frontera, president of Assoprovider.
