The Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni (AGCOM) has fined the Associazione Assoprovider for obstructing supervisory activities in the Piracy Shield case.

Rome, April 4. Assoprovider, the association of Internet Service Providers, has been fined by AGCOM for obstruction of supervisory activities in the context of the Piracy Shield platform's operations.

The measure comes after AGCOM's refusal to provide access to the platform's documents. Piracy Shield, the anti-piracy system that has been the subject of much debate since it was established.

In particular, the association requested the list of access inhibition measures, implemented through the platform, especially because the inhibitions seem to have also involved subjects completely unrelated to piracy activities.

Similar requests had been rejected regarding the citizens involved, completely innocently, in the indiscriminate blocks implemented by the platform.

It must be said that Assoprovider has always fought from the beginning against the platform with an appeal to the Tar, and with other ongoing initiatives.

The decision to fine the association by AGCOM occurs precisely in this climate.

Assoprovider, which actively participated in the working group established by the Authority on combating illegal activities as long as it was allowed, asked the Authority for explanations as to why, without any real reason, it had to provide the list of Italian providers at a certain point. After all, this data is already in the possession of theAGCOM, which is the manager of the public register of communication operators (ROC) and who knows, as stated in its defensive briefs before the TAR Lazio, the identification data of all network operators and communication services.
