PRESS RELEASE
Rome, 20 November 2024.
Assoprovider, the association of small and medium Italian providers, expresses its solidarity and support to the Commissioner of the Authority for Communications Guarantees, Elisa Giomi, Agcom commissioner, who reported through his LinkedIn profile that following the post on Piracy Shield – the platform donated by Lega Calcio to Agcom – he received a warning to rectify and a threat of a possible compensation action.
"According to the Association, Commissioner Giomi expressed a critical position perfectly aligned with the principles of freedom of expression and the multiple criticisms coming from civil society and the business world in the electronic communications sector," explains Giovanbattista Frontera, president of Assoprovider.
Assoprovider, at the forefront against the distortions of the Piracy Shield, urges the Authority for Communications Guarantees to revisit the entire system of automatic site blocking based on the Piracy Shield, suspending its effectiveness until the absence of dangers for users and consumers is ascertained.
At the beginning of November, the Commissioner of the Authority for Communications Guarantees Antonello Giacomelli, from the columns of an online publication, had highlighted the opportunity to suspend the platform's activity until the various issues are resolved.
