5G and augmented reality to revolutionize the television industry with Sicily as the protagonist. Octopus is an innovative platform that experiments with new technologies to offer new opportunities to the television sector and more valuable content to viewers.
Innovation is promoted by a partnership between two member companies of Assoprovider, Consulservice by Antonella Oliviero and Level 7 by Paolo di Francesco, who recently presented the platform in Palermo. Octopus received funding as a "third party" winner of the third open call, within the project European FLAME.
What is Octopus
Octopus is a program that will allow, through the use of 5G network of receive real-time information on the personalities interviewed on TV that will be projected thanks to Augmented Reality. This reduces the margins of error in data identification, facilitates post-production work, and allows the viewer to enjoy increasingly rich television content.
For example, the system will be able to recognize the face of the interviewed person and will automatically display lower thirds that provide more information and details about them.
The 5G experimentation in Buseto
The project is made possible thanks to the presence in Sicily, in the municipality of Buseto Palizzolo, a small town in the province of Trapani, with a 5G services infrastructure, implemented by Level7, a telecommunications company with many years of experience in Research and Innovation projects at the European level.
Buseto Palizzolo is one of the four European cities, along with London, Barcelona, and Bristol, to have this type of experimental infrastructure. that allows for the development and testing of high-level technological projects.
But if technology without strategy is not enough to ensure development, here is where the integration of planning leads to significant results.
Partnership between two Assoprovider companies
Consulservice and Level7, two companies providing internet in areas where this service is denied, are part of the national association Assoprovider, which brings together all operators active in the Italian territory. This is why at the project presentation, it was attended by Dino Bortolotto, President of Assoprovider.
The project will be completed by June and thanks to the support of the EU, local information is growing, contributing to the development of innovative and cutting-edge technologies.
