Assoprovider networks with Appice for the Internet of Things

appice

Assoprovider signs an agreement with Appice, an association that brings together small operators of electronic communication equipment infrastructures. The purpose of the partnership is to create business opportunities and offer new services to citizens.

Assoprovider forms a partnership with Appice, the association that brings together small owners of electronic communication equipment infrastructures: "We were founded in 2016 to promote the category of independent entities, owners of towers and masts," explains Paolo Proni, president of Appice and founder of Fortel Srl.

Appice, as Assoprovider, was established to protect small companies from the market power of large operators (Vodafone, Tim, etc.) and from new market players, such as large groups led by Americans and South Americans investing in Italian electronic communication infrastructures: «We are about 45 and are spread throughout Italy. The most important companies in our network have 900 sites, compared to competitors starting from a minimum of 15,000 sites. In such a context, it is easy to understand that only through cohesion among us could we counteract positions of privilege, monopoly, and abuse, and formulate proposals to defend the category,» explains Proni to Assoprovider.

Meeting between Appice and Assoprovider

Appice members host radio and television broadcasters, as well as many Internet providers, which is why the paths of the two associations have increasingly crossed in recent years: "At one of our assemblies, one of our members told us about Assoprovider and their battles against the digital divide and unjust laws. Intrigued, we attended their Assembly in Rome in 2019 to get to know each other better and understand what initiatives we could undertake together."

An initial project featuring Assoprovider and Appice is related to Lorawan technology.: let's talk about the wireless telecommunications network which, thanks to its characteristics, is the ideal technology for the Internet of Things (we discuss it here).

Lorawan, smart objects communicate for quality services

Assoprovider became interested in LoRaWAN technology two years ago, thanks to the project manager, Marco Caldarazzo. Caldarazzo himself was a guest at an assembly in Florence of Appice to discuss the network, which among its features, connects long-range sensors with low energy consumption. It was precisely at the Florentine assembly that the ideas of Assoprovider and Appice came together to offer an opportunity to all members: «We have installed a first system with Lora technology in Naples. The agreement with Assoprovider will allow all members to connect devices wherever our stations are located and to do so easily, thanks to a draft contract already prepared and reduced service costs», continues Proni.

"Today, for a small or medium telecom operator, competing with the big players in areas like connectivity is becoming increasingly complex. LoRaWan, on the other hand, would allow smaller operators to enter the market on equal footing with the larger ones, increasingly focusing on quality services, both for private individuals and businesses. The Lora technology allows for the communication of all smart objects in the home, from electricity meters to gas and heating systems, with a view to greater security and savings," states Caldarazzo.

Marcello Cama, Assoprovider's communication manager and promoter of the partnership, explains how “Assoprovider has always worked to create connections with other operators. The partnership with Cio Club Italia and Appice demonstrates the association's desire to strengthen its network, creating networking opportunities and business prospects.”
