One in three Italians is not satisfied with their ADSL or fiber operator (according to a study by Facile.it). To find the most suitable offer, many of them then switch providers, opting for another of the big players in the market. But even in this case, they often do not find what they are looking for.
What are the reasons that make them dissatisfied? According to the survey, there are three main reasons that create dissatisfaction among users:
- The excessive cost of the service
- Browsing speed too low
- The lack of transparency in the policies applied by the telephone company.
"Choosing the right operator among the many deceptive offers from the major players in the Italian market becomes truly complicated. There is no uniformity between the offer and the service actually provided. But consumers need to be smart and uncover the tricks," explains Antonio Aprea, member of the board of directors of Assoprovider and founder of Nowtech.
Antonio reveals some deceptions cwhat large telecommunications companies scheme on Internet connection offers and how to choose the right provider.
Misleading advertising: what you need to know
Antonio tells us about the main elements to pay attention to, those that may deceive the end user. We have compiled his advice/warnings in this list we present to you:
Be careful with the wording "up to": "Fiber offer up to 100 mega". Large telecommunications companies often use this "up to" formula, which misleads the inattentive user.. He expects to browse at that speed, but in reality, the term "up to" almost never guarantees reaching that speed," reveals Antonio.
Free activation, but is it really so? There is absolutely nothing free in the connection offers of the large companies. There are a whole series of hidden costs that are not perceived by the user. For example, the "membership fee" to activate a new line, which in some cases can be as much as 240 euros over the course of about a year. The same membership fee is also applied when the user intends to switch from one operator to another.
Free modem, but you pay for the router: "They tell you the modem is free, but then you have to pay for the router with costs that seem small each month, but actually become hundreds of euros more to pay. You cannot get the router from another operator and save; you are obliged to choose the one they offer you, at their costs."
How to choose the right operator
The lack of price transparency and poor service quality are risks that are not encountered with an independent ISP, as Antonio aptly describes:
"We small operators start from a completely different logic compared to large telecommunications companies. Our interest is to work on the individual customer and make them fully satisfied with our proposal. Making fake offers, besides being against our ethics, would also be detrimental to our business. For this reason, transparency is one of the values on which our offers are always based.
